How to Repair Holes in Wooden Houses before You Paint and Smooth by Sanding
Homeowners would enjoy it if your wooden home did not require much more than occasional home maintenance and repair. Only caulk and scrape some, lay down some painting drop cloths, and slap on a new coat of outdoor acrylic paint.
Maintaining your house is more difficult. Rather than easy, you may need to patch the wood exterior of your home.
My property required a lot more be done. The steel sheeting near the roof gutters did not go to the edge and allowed rainwater to repeatedly dampen the facing board under the gutter. As the years passed, the wood shrunk and the protective coat of paint flaked.

Bondo was great for car dents. Bondo was heavy and durable. This auto filler could be sanded. When he suggested doing this, I realized quickly that repairs done this way would work.
When making repairs, the approach is to do the job in layer after layer with big gobs initially and thinner sections to finish. Furthermore, you can make nice sharp corners, with ordinary kitchen wax paper and wood to shape. When sanding and finishing prior to painting all you need to do is to use one of the discounted belt sanders to make the Bondo blend smoothly with the wood.
Homeowners with an old wood deck, you could also use Bondo to repair cracks in the surface of a wood deck design. It is sometimes necessary, when you are refinishing redwood decks.
Note the fact that Bondo looks light red after sanding and this will show through, if you only use a transparent water treatment on your wood deck. If you intend to waterproof a lumber deck after patching with Bondo, you might need to use a dark stain.
Also you don’t have to look for a car parts place to acquire Bondo. It is easy to find Bondo at most any big hardware store. By the way, my wood repair still looks great after several years.
